GOOD POSTURE IS BOTH HEALTHY AND ATTRACTIVE |
|
| |
The way you carry yourself is part of your self-image. Good posture with a straight back and broad open shoulders shows a good sense of self-esteem. In today's society, good posture is becoming less and less common due to the sedentary nature of our daily lives. When working in a seated position, bent over a desk, the body slumps and our core stability muscles start to weaken.
Weak muscles tire easily and when they are no longer able to hold the body straight, the back starts to bend. When this happens, the front edges of the spinal discs are compressed and the back edges stretch out. In time, the strained discs wear out and the vertebrae start pressing on nerve endings. This impedes their ability to conduct impulses from the spinal cord to the tissues and organs of the body, and degeneration occurs. |
|
| |
GOOD POSTURE IS FORMED IN CHILDHOOD |
|
| |
The habit of good posture should be learned during childhood, however, when a child goes to school and sits at a desk for long periods of the day, that child's back is subjected to strain. A child's skeleton is more flexible than an adult's and therefore early correction of postural problems can stop the process of irreversible changes. |

USING TONUS ELAST ELASTIC BELTS |
|
| |
If you have to keep working in the same position for long periods of time, particularly in cold damp places, choose an elastic support belt for yourself - it will protect you from draughts and keep you warm to help prevent catching a cold. If worn after surgery, injuries or if suffering from osteochondrosis, a belt will provide firm support and keep you warm. Every TONUS ELAST product will serve you well for many years. |
|
| |
ELASTIC BELTS HELP TO: |
|
| |
• Support and relieve pain in the lumbar area, in cases of osteochondrosis and radiculitis.
• Prevent dislocation of vertebrae and discs; and support vertebrae after injury.
• Relieve pain in the legs and lumbar region from over-use.
• Guard against cold in the lumbar region; and prevent hypothermia.
• Support weakened peritoneal muscles after childbirth or surgery, particularly in people susceptible to rupture or hernia.
• Prevent sprains, strains and sporting injuries. |
|
|
| |
USING TONUS ELAST POSTURE CORRECTORS |
|
| |
Correctors are ready-made elastic belts that support the backbone and encourage good posture. Improvements appear 2-3 months when the corrector is worn on a regular basis. |
|
| |
CHILDREN AND GOOD POSTURE |
|
| |
Using posture correctors and belts is an effective way to rehabilitate the backbone. While adults don't need to be persuaded to use one, children (who are influenced by their peers) may need to be. Explain to your child why good posture is so important. Your child may want to play rugby, or do weight-lifting or martial arts, but these and some other sports can overstrain the back. Discuss with your child whether it is worth pursuing such sports, or whether they might not be better choosing something different such as swimming, volleyball or tennis. |
|
| |
Optimal parameters for school furniture: The height of the table should be at fist level when the child is standing with his/her hands at their sides. The top of the table should be inclined at about 15 degrees. The seat should be 4-6 cm below the table top and there should be a slightly inclined foot support. While sitting, the hip and knee joints should form right angles. The chair should have elbow rests and a support to fit the small of the back. |
|
|
| |
CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE
The elastic fabrics used by TONUS ELAST enable the right size of belt or corrector to be chosen without needing to try them on. To get the correct size, you need to know your measurements (in centimetres):
• Centimetres around the shoulder joint (at top of arm, around armpit and shoulder).
• Centimetres around the chest (men and children).
• Centimetres around the breasts (women)
• Centimetres under the breasts (women).
• Waist measurement in centimetres.
• Hip measurement in centimetres. |

THE ANATOMY IN BRIEF
In Oriental medicine, the spinal column is regarded as a receptacle of man's vital life force. As such, the spiritual and emotional condition of a person can be judged by the state of their internal organs and the condition of their spinal column. A multitude of nerves connects the spine to all organs of the body. If the transmission of nerve pulses is impeded for any reason, the result can be disease and disorder in the organs. |
|
|
 |
| |
The spine is the key component of the skeleton. Its most important functions are to support movement and to protect the spinal cord from injury. The spine consists of 34 vertebrae - classified into 5 sections. Three sections are mobile (7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae, and 5 lumbar vertebrae). The sacral section and coccyx have fixed joints.
Spinal discs act in a shock-absorbing manner. They are located between each of the vertebrae in the mobile part of the spine. These discs distribute the load evenly between the vertebrae. The neck, lumbar, back and abdominal muscles surround the column to provide support. The slight 'S' shape of the vertebral column allows it to absorb sudden shocks.
